The present lot is a portrait of well-known

theatre artist, Kusum Haidar. She was a

student of the legendary stage director and

teacher, Ebrahim Alkazi. Haider met Husain

during this time and was the inspiration for

some of his paintings in the 1960s. Other

portraits of Haider painted by Husain, are

published in Richard Bartholomew and Shiv
