that octagonal step-cut ruby weighing 5.20 carats is

from Burma (Mogok, Myanmar) with no thermal

enhancement

In Sanskrit, the ruby is called

Ratnaraj, The Emperor of all

Gems. The ruby symbolises

the sun among the navratna,

or nine jewels. The name of

the stone stems from the

Latin "rubeus", meaning red.

This fiery red is created by

the presence of chromium.
