In this work from her

Soft Toy

series

of 2004, Potnis recreates childhood

memories and anxieties on a

monumental scale and sugarcoats

them in pastel shades of emulsion

paint, associated with the comfort

of home. The dolls seem to come

alive in a delicate interplay with

artificiality but a pun in the title

suggests that all is not as sweet as

it first appears.
